***Celebrating Native Strong Week at the Elementary***
Our elementary school celebrated Native Strong Week last week, a special time dedicated to honoring Indigenous cultures, traditions, and teachings. Each day featured a themed activity designed to build awareness, strengthen community, and celebrate the rich heritage of Native peoples.
Monday – Wear Red for MMIW/MMIP Awareness
Students and staff wore red to bring attention to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women/Persons (MMIW/MMIP). This day encouraged learning about the ongoing efforts to support Indigenous communities and honor those who have gone missing or whose lives have been taken.
Tuesday – Honor the Earth: Campus Clean-Up
In recognition of Indigenous stewardship of the land, the school participated in a campus clean-up. Students worked together to care for the earth, reinforcing the value of respecting and protecting the environment.
Wednesday – Dress as an Elder
Students were invited to dress as an elder, celebrating the wisdom, leadership, and guidance that elders provide in Native communities. This activity encouraged conversations about respect, tradition, and the important role that elders play in preserving culture. The students learned the Salish words for grandparents.
Thursday – Salish Medicine Wheel Colors
The school honored the colors of the Salish medicine wheel—red, yellow, green, and blue. Each color represents teachings about balance, wellness, and the interconnectedness of all living things. Students learned about the cultural significance of the medicine wheel and its place in Indigenous knowledge.
Friday – Rock Your Moccasins, Ribbon Skirts, & Ribbon Shirts; Bring Your Beadwork
To close the week, students and staff wore moccasins, ribbon skirts, and ribbon shirts, and brought their beadwork, celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural pride. This day allowed students to showcase traditional regalia and artwork while learning more about Indigenous artistry and identity.
Our elementary school also had contests going on throughout the week, longest braid, food drive collection and Class Warrior shields. We had a boy and girl winner from upper elementary and lower elementary, Madeline and Tage from TKO-2nd and Ayla and Eli from 3rd-5th. Mrs. Hawkaluk’s class won the food drive. We truly appreciate all of the food donated, “way to go Elementary”.
The Warrior Shields were such a great example of teamwork and creativity it was a hard decision to make for the judges. In the end Mrs. Plant’s TKO won for lower elementary and Ms. Valandra won for the upper elementary.
Campus clean up was a great success with many bags collected. Both of our 5th grades collected the most, thank you Ms. Adamson and Mr. Krantz. Mr. Delaney’s class was close behind.
Native Strong Week was a meaningful celebration that brought our school community together in learning, reflection, and pride. Each activity helped our students deepen their understanding of Indigenous culture while fostering respect, unity, and connection. The enthusiasm shown by our students and staff made this week truly special, and the participation in our contests and daily themes highlighted the strength and spirit of our school community. We look forward to continuing these traditions and further supporting cultural awareness and education throughout the year.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Frey for organizing, coordinating, and bringing this entire week to life. Your hard work, creativity, and dedication made Native Strong Week an unforgettable experience for all of us. We appreciate you more than you know. Lemlmts!
On that note, everyone please have a fantastic and safe break and Happy Thanksgiving! We will see everyone back Monday, December 1 at 8:15am.

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Ms. TC Valandra – 3rd Grade 🌟
This is Ms. Valandra’s second year teaching, and her first year in 3rd grade—and she is absolutely loving it! 💛 She was inspired to become a teacher by her Grandma Sissy, who always told her it was “in her blood,” coming from a long line of educators. 📚 Her grandma encouraged her to keep learning and reminded her that you’re never too old to grow as a lifelong learner. ✨
One of Ms. Valandra’s favorite parts of teaching is sharing Indigenous literature with her students. Her current favorite read-aloud is 'Fierce Aunties!' 📖 She also loves getting her students up and moving, collaborating together, and watching all their creative ideas come to life. 🎨🤝
If she could travel anywhere in the world, Ms. Valandra would choose Italy—drawn to its rich culture, incredible food, and beautiful architecture. ✨
We’re so lucky to have Ms. Valandra as part of our team! 💙

A Heartfelt Thank You! Our Book Fair was a Huge Success!
📚✨
On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of St. Ignatius School District, we want to extend
our sincerest gratitude to every member of our community—families, students, teachers, and
volunteers—who made our annual Book Fair a resounding success!
Your incredible support resulted in our most successful fair to date! Thank you for sharing your
love of reading and for investing in our school. ❤
You might be wondering, "Where does the money go?" The funds raised from the book fair are
immediately reinvested into our school library to directly support our students' literacy and
learning needs.
This means your contributions are already hard at work helping us purchase new books, replace
damaged copies, and expand our collections in high-demand areas.
Thank you again for your commitment to our school! 🙏

Remembering and thanking all those who served in our military on this sunny Veteran's Day. The middle school and high school staff and students made their way down to the Veteran's Memorial this morning to partake in today's ceremony. Huge thanks to Homer and JC Courville for inviting us and putting the event on. We're always appreciative. Our kids got to see a 21 gun salute and hear Taps. #bulldogveterans #veteransday
